Video conferencing is no longer the "wave of the future," it's the now and it benefits so many parties. Unless however you were one of those that enjoyed a company brunch in a city away from home as there is no longer a need for you to be in the air much anymore.
A large amount of positions that once considered travel as a necessity now use video conference tools to enable them to visit with anyone even on different sides of the globe. It's fair to believe that the airlines probably aren't too thrilled about it. But, this technology is the way to go. It is a huge step in the right direction as it cuts down on energy costs substantially. Even if it's not a company's intention to do this to "go green" it saves everyone time and as we all know in the business world, "time is money."

While a hospital might have the technology needed to go through with an emergency the specialized doctor might be on the other side of the world. In a case like this the specialist is able to go to the closest equipped facility, and perform the procedure virtually using video conference and robotic technology.
There are also several "quick clinics" which have sprung up in various areas of the country. These clinics are there for persons wishing to speak with a doctor regarding minor issues that they may have. These facilities are usually small and staffed with a lab technician, a nurse, and a receptionist. What makes this visit different from others is that you speak with the doctor through video conference. They're able to see your records and lab results as this is sent to them electronically. Of course some cases may require a trip to the hospital but in most minor situations a visit with the doctor along with a lab review is all that is needed. Video conference technology allows there to be less wait time and opens up yet another venue for one to visit with a doctor. Often times video conference visits are paid for without a deductible by major insurance.
The future of video conference has no end when it come to the numerous ways that it will be able to facilitate our lives. Imagine seeing a doctor when you roll out of bed or being able to attend that morning meeting in your bunny slippers.
