Common Sense Energy Saving Tips

By now most of us know the terms renewable and non-renewable as they refer to to energy sources. But the ongoing consumption of the non-renewable sources of energy is getting a lot of attention these days. A severe energy crisis is coming and no one can escape the effects of it. Should we leave it in the hands of the government, or take it upon ourselves to save power? Yes, there are things we, the people, can do.

Let us look at how you can conserve energy at home.

Common Sense Energy Saving Tips

The Computer: Shut off the computer and monitor when they are not in use. Maybe you can even practice this at the office.

Light Bulbs: Switching to compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs is another way to save energy. You might pay more for them up front than for incandescent bulbs, but the benefits of the CFL bulbs will prove more cost-effective in the long run by the amount of electricity they will save. Compact fluorescent bulbs can save around a year.

Turn lights off when you exit the room.

Air Conditioner: Set the thermostat higher in the summer and lower in the winter. Even a couple of degrees can help save energy. Change the filters as often as needed.

Washing Machines: Reduce the number of washes by waiting for a full load of laundry every time. Use cold water instead of warm or hot.

Television: Unplug your television (and other electronics for that matter) when you're not using it.

Water: Set the hot water heater temperature at the minimum heat you can be comfortable with. Cover your hot water heater with an insulating jacket, especially if it's in an unheated part of the house. Change showerheads to low-flow models.

Refrigerator: Turn the thermostat to about 37 degrees and make sure the seals are tight. If leftovers are still hot, allow them to cool to room temperature before putting them away. You can also save energy by taking cold or frozen food out of the refrigerator before the meal preparation, thereby saving power in heating it.

Dishwasher: Only run the dishwasher when it is full. Let the dishes air dry.

Remember, even things that are not being used at the time are consuming electricity if they are plugged in.

If feasible, replace older appliances with energy efficient models.

Check your home for proper insulation.

Request a home energy audit from your local power company. This can help you see how and where your home may be energy-inefficient.

FINALLY: Eliminate your power bill altogether by generating your own electricity with a magniwork generator, the very latest in DIY energy technology. Read the complete guide at: Magniwork Generator
